University College of Engineering or UCE, located near Thodupuzha, is an institute of engineering and technology run and managed by the Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam, Kerala. UCE was the first self-financing college in Kerala when it started. UCE offers both Bachelor and Master degree courses. Courses conducted by the college are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. The Syndicate of Mahatma Gandhi University is serving as the Board of Governors of the institute. The institute started functioning in 1996 at Thodupuzha and was later moved to its own campus at Muttom in May 2002.

University College Of Engineering was inaugurated on 29 October 1996 by the then Kerala Minister for Education and Work, Shri.P. J. Joseph, in Thodupuzha. The college started functioning with three departments - Computer Science, Electronics and Communication and Polymer Technology. In May 2002, when the college was shifted to its own campus in Muttom, two more departments were added - Information Technology and Electrical and Electronics. Later in 2007, M. Tech course in Applied Electronics started to be offered in the campus.
The campus is located in a picturesque place spread over 25 acres (100,000 m2) of land at Muttom, 7 km from Thodupuzha, by the side of State Highway No 33. The nearest attractions are the Malankara Dam and Malankara Reservoir which is constructed across the waters from the tail-gate of the Moolamattom Power House.
The course teaches hardware and software fields, with prominence on the software sector. Other than the final year main project, the syllabus includes seminars and a mini project in the third year.The course aims at making its students capable to face the challenges in the fast growing information technology industry.The core of the course includes subjects like data structures,operating systems,language processors,algorithm analysis, and theory of computation.The course also includes subjects on computer hardware, advanced processors,data communications,computer network,database management,graphics and multimedia.
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering maintains an industry-institution interaction.The curriculum includes electives like Computer Networking, Information Theory and Coding.
The B.Tech. Polymer Engineering course was initiated for the requirements of the industrial sector giving equal emphasis for the study of rubber and plastic. The department library is well stacked with books, periodicals and recent publications in various areas of Polymer Engineering. The students are professionally trained through in-plant training in various industries in and out of the state, thereby nourishing themselves with the skill and expertise.
IT Department was started in 2002 as part of the college's expansion programme.
Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) Department was started in 2002 as part of the college's expansion programme.
Library & Information division of the college has a fine collection of academic books in its repository, including national and international journals and magazines. The library makes use of Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme along with bar-coding for its cataloging purposes. An automation software called SOUL(Software of University Libraries) is used for internal accounting. For easy search and access of the repository, Online Public Access Catalog system is used. The college library comes under the UGC-Infonet Programme. This makes it possible for the students to get access to many journals through UGC-Infonet [1] E-journals Consortium.
UCE offers B. Tech courses in five streams and an M. Tech course in one stream.
